SHAPING YOUNG MINDS WITH MANIFESTOS

(noun)  [LATIN]

a fundamental transformation of mind and character

excerpt

To design a series of book covers, and set a visually repetitive system for the first three in an ongoing series of manifestos for teenagers in a visual language that calls out to them.

synopsis

The Communist Manifesto, Common Sense, and Seneca's On the Shortness of Life are commentaries on political and sociological happenings around the world at different eras. Some parts of these documents are already part of high school required reading, which motivated me to design book covers for high school students using simple shapes: rectangles (for The Communist Manifesto), stars & stripes (for Common Sense) and circles (for On the Shortness of Life), to define complex illustrations, and thus, creating the "Shaping of the Mind" series.
